WELL-KNOWN FRENCH AUTHOR JOHANNE MERCIER TO VISIT PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI — French author, Johanne Mercier, will be touring Prince Edward Island performing literary readings at French schools and public libraries, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.

Minister Vessey said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for French library patrons and students to enjoy the readings and workshops of this author who has written dozens of humorous books for children. Ms. Mercier will be visiting the three French library branches and some French schools to meet students in grades three to six.”
Ms. Mercier will be on the Island from May 2-4, 2011. The tour is sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts and organized by the Public Library Service of the Department of Tourism and Culture in partnership with the Commission scolaire de langue française.
“Our French Libraries play an important role in providing the Acadian and Francophone community access to French literary works, through books, technology and live readings,” added Minister Vessey.
