The Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts, the provincial government and the Lieutenant Governor will recognize members and supporters of the Island arts community with significant awards in April.
Five awards will be handed out at the first-ever Prince Edward Island Arts Awards. An Island patron of the arts, an Island volunteer, an Island educator and an Island community will be acknowledged respectively by Lieutenant-Governor Barbara Hagerman, Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister of Education Gerald Greenan and Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour Carolyn Bertram at a gala event to be held at Fanningbank on April 22, 2009.
In addition, the Honourable Barbara Hagerman will also present an Island artist with the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts Father Adrien Arsenault Senior Arts Award, valued at $5000.
The other Awards have a monetary value of $2000.

The Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts asks all residents to consider who in their community has made a difference in the arts, whether through his or her own body of work, through volunteering, through funding or through teaching. In addition, what community has done a stellar job of recognizing and supporting the role of the arts in a healthy vibrant community?
