Finalist manuscripts to be announced in May 2011; Deadline to enter is December 3, 2010

The Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia (WFNS) is thrilled to announce changes to the judging process of its annual Atlantic Writing Competition (AWC), now entering its 34th cycle. A list of finalist manuscripts from every category will be announced in May 2011, with winners being announced in summer 2011. The deadline to enter the competition is December 3, 2010.
“These changes are a direct result of feedback we have received from competition entrants in the past, that is that they have found the eight-month wait to hear the results too long,” says Hillary Titley, competition coordinator. “This year, all entrants will learn the status of their manuscript in the spring.”
The AWC has established itself as an essential rite of passage for writers across the Maritimes. Each entry receives written feedback from two judges – invaluable for a developing writer – and a placement or win in a category can be a significant vote of confidence for those that are embarking on the long journey towards professional publication. George Elliott Clarke, Budge Wilson, Ami McKay, Amy Jones, Ryan Turner and numerous other Atlantic Canadian authors boast AWC wins or placements in their writing history.
Entries are accepted in the following categories: adult novel, short story, writing for children, young adult-juvenile novel, poetry, and, both new to the competition this year, creative non-fiction and unproduced play. Full guidelines and entry forms can be found athttp://www.writers.ns.ca/awc.html.
