CALL: Ranters, Ravers and Raconteurs
Deadline: March 26
Storytelling is a great talent, one that we are letting slip. This region has a rich background not only of oral history and formal narratives, but also of the kitchen table rant-and-rave. Storytelling at the root is a face-to-face interaction, an aspect of contemporary culture that is being outmoded by lightning fast, stripped down forms of communication. How can we attempt to have a sense of community if we forget how to communicate at the most fundamental levels?
Ranters, Ravers & Raconteurs is seeking work that engages critically with contemporary society, offering a variety of views and media. The work need not be bound by narrative, text or literature because there are many ways to rethink the activity of storytelling. Interpretations and liberties welcomed.
Eyelevel Gallery seeks submissions of new and engaging work for its annual Y-Level emerging artists show. This exhibition is open to students in their final year of undergraduate studies and recent undergraduates (up to one year post-graduation) from the Atlantic Provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 26. Email or fax submissions will not be considered. Please include the following:
* a project description outlining the concept, scale and media of proposed work (250 words max)
* CV, with current contact info
* artist statement (250 words max)
* 10 digital images (jpgs- low res) or applicable multimedia on CD or DVD
