Summit Studios runs humorous short story contest

on

Summit Studios, owned by Matt Jackson and his wife, is a Vancouver-based publishing company that publishes a series of Travel & Outdoor Humour anthologies. The first book in the series was called Mugged by a Moose, which was released in September 2006.

Summit Studios is running a story contest to collect more travel and outdoor stories with a humorous slant. The Grand Prize is $1,000.00 and there are five second prizes of $200.00 each. All winning stories (and probably some that do not) will be published in a new anthology to be released this fall. For those stories that do not win prize money that the publishers would like to use anyway, Summit Studio will contact the writers to arrange for payment (usually $100.00). After publication, writers maintain the copyright to their work.
The publishers are a little short on material from Eastern Canada, so they are particularly interested in stories from the Maritimes.

For details about submitting stories to the contest, writers can visit the Summit Studios web site to download more detailed instructions (www.summitstudios.biz). The Writers’ Spotlight section features profiles of several writers the publishers have worked with in the past, and the sample stories found under these profiles are good examples of the kinds of literary non-fiction stories we like.

The deadline for the contest is January 31, 2010.
